Launching a blog about live music meant asking one honest question first: who is already doing this, and how well?

Before writing a single review, we set out to deliver honest concert reviews for live music fans — the kind of practical, no-spin coverage we always wished existed. So we studied the competition closely. Here is what we found, and where we believe we can do better.

We didn’t want to copy anyone. We wanted to fix what was missing.

Why we studied the competition first

You cannot stand out if you do not know the field. We picked three very different players: a global entertainment giant, a trendy city guide, and an independent fan blog. Each one taught us something about what works, what is missing, and what fans actually need before, during, and after a show.

Variety – The professional giant

Screenshot of the Variety website, a professional outlet with concert reviews

Variety is an American media company specialising in entertainment, with decades of experience. Its music section covers concerts worldwide, with detailed reviews written by professional journalists. The writing is neat and analytical, but it can feel distant from the real fan experience.

There is little practical advice: no listings, no guidance on the best spots, and no venue guide if you travel far for a show. The site also focuses almost exclusively on English-speaking markets and major international artists.

✅ Strength
Credible, well-written professional reviews.

⚠️ Main gap
No practical, fan-first advice and a narrow international focus.

Le Bonbon – The local lifestyle guide

Le Bonbon, a French lifestyle site with concert listings

Le Bonbon is a French lifestyle media covering Paris and a dozen other European cities. It goes beyond concerts to feature restaurants, outings and events — a fun, young, very Parisian guide to what to do in town.

When it comes to concerts, though, Le Bonbon mostly lists upcoming announcements. There are no detailed reviews, no ratings, and no practical advice for fans. It tells you what is happening, but not what the experience really feels like.

✅ Strength
Excellent local event discovery and a great tone.

⚠️ Main gap
Announcements only, with no real reviews.

Concert Enthusiast – The fan blog

Concert Enthusiast, a fan blog with live music reviews

Concert Enthusiast is a personal blog dedicated to concerts. It offers reviews, practical advice, venue guides, and even a themed shop. The tone is sincere and personal — honestly, the closest to what we want to build.

The main difference? It is one person, so one point of view. At Experience Concert we are four, with different tastes and experiences. That means more variety, more angles, and a richer take on every show.

✅ Strength
Sincere, fan-first voice.

⚠️ Main gap
A single perspective.

Our verdict

Each does something well, but none delivers honest concert reviews for live music fans in a practical, fan-first way. That is the gap we built Experience Concert to fill.

What this means for honest concert reviews for live music fans

Variety stays professional but distant, Le Bonbon stops at announcements, and Concert Enthusiast offers just one voice. Experience Concert combines real opinions, useful tips, venue know-how, and reviews written by fans, for fans. Curious how it all began?
