Introduction

For Angela Florio, dance was not something planned from childhood. It appeared gradually through different moments of life, sometimes unexpectedly. What started as simple curiosity eventually became a real passion. Through choreography, movement, and music, dance became a space to release energy, express emotions, and disconnect from everyday stress.

How Angela Florio discovered dance

Musical theatre at school: a first theatrical approach to movement

Angela Florio’s first contact with dance came during middle school and high school through musical theatre projects. These performances included choreographed scenes that were very expressive and theatrical. Even though it was not a traditional dance class, it introduced the idea that movement could tell a story. The focus was not really on technique but on stage presence and emotion. This first experience helped Angela Florio understand that dance could be a creative and expressive form of communication.

TikTok dances during lockdown: discovering dance through social media

At the end of high school, during the lockdown, dance reappeared in Angela Florio’s life through social media. Like many people at that time, she started trying TikTok dances simply because there was little else to do at home. Learning short choreographies quickly became entertaining. Repeating movements, improving timing, and memorizing sequences created a small challenge that felt motivating. Even though the dances were simple, this moment played an important role in developing her interest in dance.

Five years later (2025): the first real class in a dance studio

In 2025, Angela Florio decided to take her first class in a real dance studio. At the time, she did not really know where to go or which style to try, so she chose a class almost randomly. Walking into the studio felt intimidating at first. Following a teacher, dancing with other people, and practicing choreography together was very different from learning online. But she quickly discovered that the dance world is very open and welcoming, no matter the level. It also turned out she was lucky: the very first class she tried was one she immediately loved, and it is still one of the classes she attends today. For Angela Florio, it felt like a real revelation. Here is the studio she goes to : Studio Harmonic, studio et école de danse à Paris Bastille

Testing different styles and teachers

Finding the right dance classes

After the first experience, Angela Florio started trying different dance classes and teachers. Obviously, the first choices were mostly based on practical constraints such as schedule and availability. But over time, she naturally stayed with the classes she enjoyed the most, where the teachers, the atmosphere, and the level felt right. A lot depends on the teacher’s learning method, their energy during the class, but also the music they choose for the choreography. Most dance teachers tend to have their own signature style, which makes each class feel unique.

Building a routine and a community

Over time, dance classes became part of Angela Florio’s weekly routine. Going to the dance studio regularly created structure and something to look forward to. Beyond learning choreography, another unexpected benefit appeared: a small community of dancers formed in the class. Sharing the same passion naturally created connections and made the experience even more motivating.

Dance as a powerful outlet

A powerful way to release energy

Dance requires a lot of energy. A single dance class can be physically demanding and requires both concentration and stamina. For Angela Florio, dancing became a way to release accumulated energy after long days of work or study. It also turned out to be a way to exercise and build strength while actually enjoying the activity itself, something she had struggled to find with other sports before.

Letting go of physical tension

Beyond the physical effort, dance also helps release tension stored in the body. Through movement, stretching, and repetition, muscles progressively relax and the body feels lighter. After a dance class, the physical fatigue is often accompanied by a feeling of relief and mental clarity, as if stress had been released through movement.

Dance as a way to express emotions

Dance is also a powerful way to express emotions. Sometimes movement allows people to say things that words cannot easily explain. Through choreography, dancers can release frustration, joy, or intensity. For Angela Florio, dance became a space to express herself freely and understand her emotions better, while also discovering new sides of her personality. Just like dance, running can also become a powerful part of a wellness journey, as shown in Ema’s story, which you can discover here.

Conclusion

Dance gradually became an important part of Angela Florio’s life. What started with school performances and TikTok videos eventually led to real dance classes and regular practice. Beyond technique, dance offers something deeper: a way to express emotions, release stress, and connect with others. For Angela Florio, dance is not only a hobby but a meaningful way to experience movement and creativity.
